Simple Affiliate Marketing Myths You Should Stay Away From

By Julio Ross

One of the main problems that new affiliates face is the inability to be able to tell fact from fiction, we are here to uncover some nasty myths to you.

Many people believe the myth about there being just one form of affiliate marketing. Affiliates who find the most success run campaigns across several types of platforms. To reach the heights of affiliate marketing you will need to learn pay per click, pay per lead, pay per sale, and whatever else will allow you to take advantage of any given opportunity. They are all similar but differ in small ways. For example, when you join a pay per lead affiliate program, you're paid for every lead that you send to the company, whereas with a pay per sale affiliate program, you'll have to actually generate a sale to see the profits. Sometimes you may be more comfortable working with one type of program over another. People have different abilities so PPC may be easier for you but will result in failure for another affiliate marketer. Some business models and traffic sources will allow you to grow your income faster and larger than others so keep that in mind. Most people start with pay per sale, and it is a good place to start because there are so many affiliate programs available for this type of affiliate marketing. In order to become extremely successful at affiliate marketing, all you have to do is become extremely proficient in the core skills. This stuff is easy, once you take the time to get the basics down. Remember, to use tracking software so you can know what to optimize and what to scale up.

Don't believe the myth that affiliate marketing and advertising are one in the same. For the product owner, affiliate marketing can bring back more profits with less investment. When you advertise a product, you pay for it in advance for the due time. But when you have affiliates marketing your product, you only pay when they get you a sale/lead/click. This is the extreme safety net and form of leverage in the online marketing world. If you have a product idea or already own a product the your best bet is to start an affiliate program.

Another very dangerous myth is the one about having to spam to be able to succeed as an affiliate. Spamming is very old and isn't nearly as effective as ethical techniques. The community of affiliate marketers are against spamming and don't condone it one bit.

The myths surrounding affiliate marketing only have as much power as you give to them. Keep these myths and any new ones away for your business and everything will be okay.
