Lead Generation System: Knowing Which One Is Correct For you

By Lorna Zelunzuk

Implementing a good lead generation system is basic to any business regardless of if it is a bricks and mortar business or a web business.

Generating leads were historically done using TV, print and radio ads, sponsorships, direct mail and cold calling and is frequently used interchangeably with advertising. The challenge with this way of lead generation is it's very costly and nowadays more and more people are turning to the net when looking for information so you will not get the return on investment you had expected. Fortunately , there are non traditional methods that are used more often today, and are less costly, eg online lead generation systems.

So how does one pick which lead generation system is best suited to you? This call will be based totally on your market and the products you are wanting to market. You also need to know what the result is you are wanting to achieve. Many folks today just want to gather names and addresses and that's fine. Once they have got these, they can then start marketing to their list.

But what is their list? And have you heard the expression "The money's in the list? ' and ever wondered what it means? Having a list is the foundation of your whole online marketing strategy. By having a list of names and targeted email lists (or street addresses) you are ready to set up your marketing strategy. This means that you are able to market direct to your list and by subscribing to your list, the customer is basically giving you permission to send him/her information ie market to them.

A word of caution though. someone who's on your list doesn't immediately become a purchaser. You want to build a relationship and trust with your lead by communicating with them on a regular basis and by providing them with worth in the shape of FREE reports, articles and info and so on.

After you have your list, it would be useful if you could segment your list so you can specifically target your market. This may be hard when you don't have much information about your lead. (Mostly you would only ask for name and email address). You could ask for more information when you 'capture ' their name and e-mail, but statistics indicate that the more info you ask for the less sure the person will be to fill in the form.

One technique of getting around this could be to compile a survey. You would then e-mail it to your list and offer them an incentive to respond.

And by the way, when you're selecting which lead generation system you are going to adopt, remember you don't need more than 3 or 4 different lead generation strategies to start with. Just stay focused on them and you'll harvest the rewards.
