Choosing a Web Host

By Martin Clementine-Marks

I recently decided to start a website for my small business. The vast majority of my business takes place at art and craft fairs so I didn't feel I needed a website at first. As my business started to grow, however, I realized that a website was the next big step for expansion. As I looked for a web host, I learned quite a bit about what you should look for to get the best experience and service.

How much the hosting costs is, of course, usually the first question people ask. This is a very important question but don't assume that cheapest is always best. Not all web hosts are created equal and you don't want to end up with one that is unreliable. Give yourself a budget and be willing to spend it on a trustworthy and high quality host for your website.

You will want to know some about your website plan before researching hosts. For one thing, you will definitely need to know how big your website is going to be in terms of the size of files that make it up. If you are using a web designer for your website, as them how big your site will be. They can guide you in choosing a web host.

You can build the website yourself, too, if you know how. If that is the case, you should call up different web hosting companies and ask them about their different size limits. They will be able to give you examples in real world terms about what each hosting package offers.

Making this contact with their customer service will allow you to evaluate their support staff, too. If you have to wait on hold for an hour to talk to someone about what each package offers, you already know you don't want to buy from them! Find a web hosting company who you would feel confident calling if a website crisis arose at some point.

Reliability is absolutely paramount to a good web host. Look for online, non-biased reviews about different web hosting companies so you can see what the word on the street is. Only from other users will you learn which hosts are notoriously for server crashes and the like.

My decision was made when I found a web hosting company that offers hosting powered by renewable energy. I love that my website is powered not by nonrenewable fuels like oil and coal but by the wind and sun. My website is running great and helping my business expand.

I am very happy with both my both my web designer and web host company. My website has already started bringing in sales and I couldn't be happier with how it looks and runs. Do your research and ask lots of questions if you want to get the best web hosting services possible..
