Best Methods Of Beating Speeding Tickets

By Adrianna Noton

Nobody likes to get speeding tickets. They impact your driving record and your insurance rates. After too many speeding violations, your driver's license can even be suspended. For people who drive for a living, such as delivery drivers, a ticket can mean termination at work. There are many reasons that a person might want to beat a ticket, and here are some of the best ways to achieve this.

The very best way to beat a ticket, of course, is to avoid speeding. If you simply follow the posted speed limits, then you have nothing to worry about. Many people would have trouble following this advice, though, and even the most careful drivers can sometimes slip up.

Your next best bet for avoiding a ticket is to avoid getting pulled over. Obviously, if you are already being pulled over, the worst thing you could do at this point is try to get away. You can take steps to keep from being stopped, but once it is happening, pull over immediately.

If you have been pulled over, then you must be cooperative. Before the officer gets to your car, prepare yourself. Turn down your music, remove your hat or sunglasses, and put away any sign that you might have been distracted while driving, such as food. Roll down your window, and turn the interior lights of your car on so that the officer can clearly see that you have nothing to hide. This will put him or her at ease and make your chances of getting let off with a warning that much better.

When the officer approaches your car, do not open the door or remove your seat belt. Keep your hands on the steering wheel, within sight. Let the officer do the talking first. Answer any questions honestly and politely, but be careful not to admit guilt, in case you want to fight the ticket in court later. Be extremely cooperative. If you are genuinely shaken or worried, don't be afraid to show it, but don't overdo it. Some officers will let you off out of pity, but not if it seems faked. You certainly do not want to act smug or overconfident.

When the officer hands you the ticket, take a careful look. Try to spot errors that could count against you. Ask the officer to fix them, but do so politely. If there are errors like a wrong license plate number or date, keep these to yourself. In some cases, though certainly not always, these can get your ticket dismissed.

The next thing to do is appear at your court date. If you show up and the officer does not, then your ticket may be dismissed. Officers fail to appear in about 25 percent of hearings for traffic tickets. This is not something to count on, however. You need to prepare your case. The ticket might not be completely thrown out, but your chances of at least getting a reduced fine are fairly decent.

Again, the only way to beat Oshawa traffic tickets 100 percent of the time is to avoid speeding in the first place. Those limits are put in place for your safety and for that of other drivers and pedestrians. Traveling at the recommended speed limit will ensure that you beat that ticket each and every time.
