By Stavros Georgiadis

It is crucial that when you market through email, the consumers want to receive communications from you. You are sure to lose customers if they feel you are spamming their inbox. Read on to find tips which will help you build a strong and successful opt-in list.

If you plan to use emails as a marketing tool, you must first gain permission from each customer you would like to include in your campaign. If you don't, clients may leave or complain about your spamming.

Email only the people on your list. Emailing people who don't know your nor your products can seem like spam. They won't know who you are, and they won't care what you're selling. Your emails will not even be opened. Do not waste your time emailing people you do not know.

Always proofread emails that you send. Every email and newsletter you send out should be error-free. Prior to sending each message, print a layout sample to ensure that the message appears as you intended. Double-check your links to make sure people can access your website.

Make your emails content rich. Put some helpful information in emails and don't just put in information related to sales. Present special articles or information that is unique to the email and not your site. Make offers for your products that are exclusive to each reader. Send greetings for holidays or a personalized message for birthdays for instance.

It is vital that you always get permission before adding someone to your marketing via email list. Otherwise, people may consider you a spammer and delete your emails or unsubscribe from your list. Your email provider may even decide to drop you, should they get a lot of complaints about your "spam mail."

Avoid major email promotions around holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Most people will be busy celebrating and will not check their emails until they go back to work. There are some exceptions. For example, if you're having a holiday sale, especially a Black Friday sale, you might want to send an email over the holiday.

One great way to increase the success of your marketing via email campaigns is to give your customers choices. Allow your customers a choice of exactly what they receive from you and how often they receive it; also, don't demand that they disclose a lot of information. The more control they have over the process, the more comfortable they will be.

You can change the format slightly to make your emails more personal on occasions. If you send out regular emails in HTML, consider doing them in just plain text format every now and then. When done judiciously, it can make your customers feel a personal connection to you and your products.

With the information you have learned, you have armed yourself with the right tools at your disposal to understand the basics of a successful email marketing strategy. Remember the information listed, and do it!
