Stay Safe with Decent Lineman Equipment

By Chloe Gib

Linemen work in all kinds of weather conditions and environments, often outdoors. Their jobs require proper tools, safety gear, and other lineman equipment. They work up on utility poles, with electrical wires and cable lines, and must have the right items to complete a job quickly and safely.

Lineman tools include safety gear as well as appropriate clothing and footwear. Many brands that are known for their products are high quality and have a good reputation among linemen and construction workers. The hands and feet must be well protected with durable gloves and boots.

Heavy duty utility gloves should cover the hands and the wrists. Good work boots are insulated so that your feet stay warm in the cooler temperatures and they should be made of a waterproof material since linemen are often working outside in all weather conditions from rain to snow and heat. Steel toed boots are often the best choice to protect the feet.

A good strong helmet has to be worn and they are usually made of a durable plastic and come with a rim or a detachable visor to protect the face and eyes. These safety items have to worn on job sites at all times so that the workers are safe. Shirts and pants can be made out of flame resistant fabrics.

To carry all of their equipment, a good sturdy waterproof bag is a must. This should be large enough to hold all of the necessary tools and equipment and it must be made of a strong material that can withstand a lot of wear and tear. It will likely have a zipper closure along the top.

As far as utility supplies as concerned, a lineman will need to carry a small knife with a notched blade. Wrenches are also a commonly used tool for cable men and linemen. A strong, heavy duty utility belt made of leather will be ideal for keeping all necessary tools close at hand while working.

Some used lineman equipment can be purchased for a lower price if it is still in good condition. Many items are best purchased new because this ensures that they are going to last a very long time for a worker. Pole climbers, body harnesses, and safety belts should be checked to make sure that they are in great condition because they are considered safety gear and are vital to insuring that a worker stays safe on a job site.
