Treatment Procedures For Acne Scars

By Mavic Gardner

The encumbrance of dealing with acne can affect an individual's state of mind. Most of us have not been spared from a miserable case of acne in our younger days. We coped with the pimples and were forced to accept the eventual scarring the reddish pustules left behind.

A case of acne is mainly aggravated when hair follicles become blocked with dirt and oil. This clogged environment is an ideal place for the proliferation of bacteria; the bacteria cause those reddish papules we call pimples.

After the zits disappear, scars often stay as a reminder of those pustules. Some acne scars grow lighter as time crawls. Still, some acne scars will not fade, and we are left with the feeling that we are somehow imperfect.

Acne scarrings have four primary types. Rolling scars are hollows with a wide, shallow depth. Ice pick scars are like scores on the surface of the skin. The raised-surface type could either be a keloidal or hypertrophic scar. Acne scars located on the temples or the cheeks are called boxcar scars, and they resemble scars from a case of chickenpox.

Controlled studies show that facial scars can have deep-seated psychological influence on the individual, for example low sense of self-worth, depression, and suicidal tendencies.

But there is no need to lose hope just yet. There are now numerous technological developments for the treatment of acne scars. Some of these treatment procedures use a form of laser therapy. Other treatments call for some form of skin abrasion. There are creams and subcutaneous injections available as well. Inquire from your doctor about the best facial eradication and/or treatment procedure that will be viable for you.
