A Quick Primer On Vinyl Banner Printing

By Elizabeth Allen

It's a very last minute move that's been forced upon you and one you're none too happy about. In less than two weeks you are going to be forced to move your store about five blocks away. It is debatably a better location and the kind of move you were probably going to be seriously considering in a year's time, but that doesn't alter the fact that many of your clients will only find out about the move whenever they next turn up at the door.

Had you been afforded reasonable warning you'd have, needless to say, been informing customers for the past two or three months. Fortunately you have a fair level of word-of-mouth business and a strong facebook page. By way of a concession from your landlord (in an attempt to avoid possible litigation) he's consented to let you hang a big vinyl banner on the side of the building for six weeks - a vinyl banner which he's going to pay for.

As time is of the essence, you went online looking for a good banner printing service and almost immediately found a number of very promising looking online banner printing websites. It looks as though this is going to be easier than you thought. Now you need to make the most of opportunity; here are a few things to keep in mind.

## Select the proper typeface

If this is the first time you've had vinyl banner printing done you should know that typeface is an important consideration. Your banner needs to be taken in at a glance. That means that the font or typeface you use must be incredibly legible. Avoid using complicated script fonts, or fonts that are too thin, or too gimmicky. A simple bold font, preferably in block capitals, is probably going to be your best choice. Resist the urge to match the font of the banner to the font used for your store name on your sign unless that font is incredibly legible.

## Keep it brief

It isn't going to matter that you are obtaining a gigantic banner on your landlord's dime. Keep the message as brief and on target as possible. Again, you would like passersby to be able to take in the message without so much as breaking stride. If you have a great logo by all means make use of it but confine the text to the absolute essential data.

## Choose bold colors

You want your banner to really 'pop' against the wall from which it's hung, and you also want the text to 'pop' against the background of the banner itself. The text color and background color need to present a strong contrast while being easy to read. Remember that a dark text set against a light background is more legible than the reverse.

## Think about hardware

Whenever you are purchasing vinyl banner printing, you ought to be aware of where and how the final product will be shown. If your banner is to be hung on the outside wall of a building it's going to need to have metal grommets on all four corners to accommodate the cords and ropes needed to secure it. If it is a large banner you may also want to consider a few wind silts to prevent an errant wind from tearing it down.

Vinyl banner printing generally is a highly reliable means of communication when properly executed. Bold colorful vinyl banners are compelling and persuasive and, if well placed, produce a tremendous impact. With due consideration of your choices there is no reason why you can't end up with an effective vinyl banner produced and displayed in no time.
