Proper Safety Training Adds To Workplace Safety

By Jane Wilson

Safety training in the workplace can reduce the incidence of on site accidents, and in some cases even prevent death. The reason why accidents happen on work sites is because of worker carelessness. When workers are taught to perform their duties in a safe manner, not only are accidents prevented, but liability insurance rates are reduced.

The employee who is trained to respond properly in a disaster will be more equipped to keep himself and others safe when disaster strikes. The one who knows how to respond in case of an emergency will be able to keep calm when disaster strikes. The reason why many people are injured when disaster strikes is because they panic and injure themselves or others.

Accidents happen without warning, that is why they are called accidents. But workers can be prepared to respond to accidents when they do happen in order to keep the extent of the accident at bay. The worker who is trained to properly respond to an accident will be less likely to suffer an injury than a worker who is not trained in accident response.

The employee who is not properly trained, can make a dangerous situation worse. The one who has no emergency response preparation training will often panic and become confused when a disaster strikes. This is predictable because people who panic in many instances behave irrationally.

Fire is the most common emergency on a work site which is why all workers should be trained on how to respond in a fire emergency. The workers should know where all fire extinguishers are stored and how to properly operate the fire fighting equipment. It is easy for the untrained worker to panic when a fire starts, but trained workers are more likely to act in a rational manner.

Safety training classes are a must in every work place. Disasters cannot be prevented, but work place personnel can be prepared to react to such emergencies. In most cases, accidents happen on the work place because of worker negligence. Workers can be trained to be more conscientious on the job in order to reduce the incidence of on site accidents.
