My Internet Marketing Debut

By Reed Slidell

There are numerous articles that talk about how to do something when it comes to Internet marketing and the range of topics are numerous. But for this particle article, let me tell you about my own foray into this world. Why bother? To give you an idea how to start on your own and it doesn't take a genius (which I am not) to be successful. Oh, before you start though it goes without saying you need an Internet connection as well as a computer.

The mention above about having your computer is no joke. You see, I've known quite a number of people who attempt to get into Internet marketing but fail miserably because they don't have their own computer and/or Internet connection. It just doesn't add up. They just go to an Internet cafe to check on their business. If you truly are serious about your business, you would want to keep an eye on it 24/7 and make sure everything runs smoothly. Any business, if not looked after properly, will fail miserably and crash to the ground.

When I started out, I was doing photography for a clients. I did weddings, pet portraits, fashion and commercial shoots and basically whatever the clients wants me to do. I never once marketed myself though so as you can figure, the projects were few and far between. As I learned about Internet marketing, I finally found a way to finally make my brand known. But first things first, I needed to focus on a single aspect of my work. So I sat down and though about it. Out of all the stuff that I do, which among them was I most passionate about? Where I can say I am most expert at? Turns out it was portraiture.

So I decided on weddings and portraiture. Now, weddings may not be strictly portraiture, but it was close enough so I decided to add it. But I focused mainly on portraits. So what I did was setup a website, added content into it, then started doing SEO, or search engine optimization, work on it as well as social media. Sure enough, after a few weeks, the number of clients I had more than doubled. At the rate I am going, I figure that in another 6 months, I can probably forego any other work I am doing and just focus on my photography.

So there you have it, My own personal experience in having an online business. Now, it is service based and I do go to the field, but the way I did was through the Internet. So if you think you have what it takes to earn your fortune in Internet marketing, I say go ahead. I am by no means a genius, but I do know what I know and I stuck to it with a passion. All you need is to find your passion, stick to it, follow the rules of Internet marketing and you will reap what you sow in due time.
