Tools Utilized To Help Keep Track Of Your Own Vehicle Fleet

By Ronn V Saas

I manage a car rental service catering mostly to tourists as well as locals that do not have vehicles. My company keeps a fleet of automobiles ranging from mainstream models to high-end luxury models for our wealthier customers.

Recently, the news outlets have been reporting that a bunch of vehicle thieves is at large in our city, so I thought it wise to take safety measures towards car theft. I decided that I must buy several GPS for vehicle tracking to help keep my vehicles secure.

Since my business is dependent upon the integrity of the fleet, I decided not to spare any expense in getting the most suitable solution out there. For our luxury brand automobiles, I bought a number of high-end FleetTrak GPS real-time tracking system units.

GPS systems are suitable for tracking vehicles since they are able to locate where a motor vehicle is, to the nearest address, and figure out how much time was spent there. The data that they gather can also be used by law enforcement agency to retrieve stolen vehicles.

The vehicle locator units monitored my own fleet live and delivered updates to my personal computer in 5-second intervals. The devices on their own are bare, so I bought a special Pelican case to be able to hold and cover them while within the car.

This casing was fashioned with GPS equipment in mind and was water resistant, crush-proof, as well as dust-proof. Our less expensive models did not need such comprehensive tracking features, so we outfitted each one with a Barda live GPS tracker.

This tracking system drew power from an automobile's OBD port, so we did not need to bother about maintaining any kind of batteries. Data coming from the tracker is transmitted to my personal computer and is seen from a special Web-based interface.

Using GPS for vehicle tracking has offered me relief. Thanks to the tracking capabilities that these kinds of locator devices provide, I'm not just able to monitor my automobiles but also give better service to my clients.
