MAil Carriers And Their Place In Todays Society

By George Dodson

Mark Twain mentioned the manual method in which mail was carried back in the day. Mark Twain, in a famous quote of his, acknowledged the tedious procedure involved in mail delivery. I recall waiting impatiently for the tiniest of packages to be delivered via snail mail.

The world has evolved since then. Computers and the internet do a lot for us that mail used to do. Even though this is the case, we still rely on the mail for bills, packages, and other items we cant get by computer. The postal services still play a huge role in society to this day.

What are their primary functions?

They hand out mail and less regularly, packaged items.

What are the pros of being mail carrier?

You havent got to have a doctorate in postal service education to be a mail carrier.School leavers have ample opportunity to earn money without a degree with this profession. The pay is sufficient in some countries. The annual salary starts with $25000 usually. Those who have been doing the job for some time can command salaries of up to $60000 per annum.

As postal workers in the federal employee health benefits program, their retirement is covered by the government. Various fringe benefits such as life insurance and savings are provided. They also have the benefit of free exercise if they choose to walk to deliver mail. That includes the fresh air free. They also get to meet a wide variety of people along their route. Since they do the same route every day, the quickly get accustomed to what needs to be done. They are not confined to a boring 9 to 5 job. Veteran postal officers can receive a lesser score on their postal service examination with no implications. This is a plus point over those who have never served in the military. For more information and advice on postal service positions, visit the USPS website. Mail carriers are still relied on around the world for their services. You have the satisfaction of knowing that you helped in that endeavor.
