I Needed To Make A Project Timeline And I Was Pleased To Find A Good Software

By Arnulfo C. Boehm

When my boss put me in charge of a really important project at work, I was excited about the opportunity as I thought it would be a great way for me to be able to demonstrate my abilities and maybe even get a promotion, but when he asked me to submit a project timeline in 48 hours, I was stumped. While I had heard of these things, I had never made one myself and didn't exactly know how they were supposed to be done, and was worried about the short time frame.

I actually came close to panicking and running through the office, shrieking and waving my arms about, but I came to my senses and realized that there must be someone who could help me with this problem. I was hesitant to ask anyone on my team, as I was supposed to be leading this project and I didn't want to look like an imbecile in front of all of them before we even got started.

I thought the best idea would be to ask a particular friend of mine who worked in a similar position at a different company if he knew how to do a project timeline. He found it amusing how worried I was about it and he assured me that it was really very easy as long as I had the right software to get the job done.

When I told him how helpless I felt, he took me back to his office so he could show me some software that he said could make anyone a pro and be able to put together an impressive timeline without any problems. He also showed me the website where this software could be purchased, and I knew that if it worked, one of the priorities of my project team would be to persuade our company to invest in the software.

In the meantime, my friend let me use his personal computer, where he had the same software installed so I could finish well before the deadline, which I knew would impress those who were higher up in my company. As I was checking out what the software could do, I decided to also add a project charter template that was above and beyond the project requirements, but seemed like it would be really helpful to the project team members, not to mention the fact that it would make me look even better. When I handed in the timeline and template, my boss was quite impressed, and our project was off to a wonderful start!
