Why You Should Do PPC - Pay Per Click Advertising Explained

By Lillie Harding

Many people that are into online advertising use pay per click advertising, or PPC for short. If you have done only a little bit of research, you have more than likely heard of how people have lost money using PPC. If you're not careful, it is possible you could lose your shirt (and everything else!) if you do this the wrong way. Having the right information and knowledge is key to your success when doing this type of marketing. So if you have never read anything on the subject at all, it is probably a bad idea to do this. The mechanics of how to do this type of advertising is actually very straightforward and simple. If you want to try this out, we wrote this article, providing free tips on how to succeed at a per click advertising your first time round.

On most every website that you encounter on the Internet will have a terms of service (TOS) page on their site. Since we are talking about PPC advertising, then do yourself a favor and read the TOS where you do business. When you read these guidelines, you can learn what to avoid doing. Just one example has to do with what Google calls thin sites. It is important that you do not have them on the Adwords advertising platform. You can do this by not giving them a "thin site", and by doing so, you are in compliance. Their rationale is it detracts from a good user experience, and I believe that is true.

When you look at the quality score on Google, it is actually cumulative, especially when it comes to pay per click advertising. You will get an overall quality score, and based upon this, your PPC campaigns in the past will factor in. If you were slapped for something in the past, this will lower your overall score significantly. This kind of information can be discovered by reading their TOS, plus other documents that they have. Other articles, just like this one, can tell you even more. It is important that you do your best with every campaign - it really is in your best interest.

You may remember that, not too long ago, Google started rejecting squeeze pages as being viable landing page destination URLs on their PPC network. So instead of leading to a thin site, Google required, in their policy change, the elimination of these destination URLs. People that were using Adwords could no longer build their lists with squeeze pages. Instead of sending people to a squeeze page that is relatively simple, and more elaborate one needs to be submitted instead. Your ad will be rejected and it may or may not hurt your quality score. Even though Google has done this, people still find a way, inevitably, to build a list with Adwords. It's just that you have to send people to a landing page on a site that has an optin box on other pages.

Advanced information on pay per click advertising, or PPC, is available all over the Internet. Finding this type of information is sometimes hard to do, yet what is available will probably help you. To truly succeed with PPC, you have to get your feet wet and get some experience, plus as much knowledge as you can.
