By Nathaniel Whitehead

Pay per click advertising is widely recognized as the best way to generate lots of targeted website traffic in a short time. You can not only get traffic immediately with PPC, but if you choose the right keywords you can enjoy a very high conversion rate. You have to realize, though, that there is more to PPC than simply outbidding your competitors and getting traffic. PPC is like any other internet marketing technique in that it demands a certain amount of research before you can launch a successful campaign of your own. People who invest in PPC without learning the fundamentals often lose quite a bit of money before they make the necessary adjustments to their campaigns. You should find these strategies helpful in planning your PPC campaigns.

When setting up your campaigns, it's important to check out all the different keyword/phrases variations you can find. If you want it to succeed, it's important that you do proper keyword research, analyze your competitor's keywords, and match your keywords the right way. You'll be using categories such as broad, exact, and phrase match keywords - make sure you know the difference. The broad match keywords will show your ads on different variations and similar phrases. For exact match keywords, your ads will display when searchers type in the exact phrase that matches yours. You can also specify negative keywords, and that means any searches that contain those words will not display your ads.

While you want to get your ads highly placed, you also have to be sure that they are good enough to get clicks. Your ad copy must be capture the attention of your targeted prospects. You have to give viewers a reason to click on your ad on not someone else's. People will pass by your ad if it's dull or uninteresting. Your ad should also be truthful in regard to your offer. If you have a headline or ad that does not match what your website or landing page actually offers, people will not like this and will click away from your site.

You must keep an eye on your budget vs. conversions when doing PPC advertising. You should always know your conversion rate relative to your expenses. By doing this, you can increase your budget on campaigns that are performing well and discontinue ones that aren't.
