What Are PopUps?

By Karen Wiggens

You've made a decision that you want to learn about something, so you do a Google search. You then pick out one of the results that Google provides and click on it. Then, once the site loads, you get a shock.

Instead of viewing the page that is purported to have the content you need, you are forced to handle a pop up. The pop-up is an infuriating ad and no matter how many times you try to close it, it won't go away--unless you supply it your e-mail address. Finally you just close your browser completely because you are so irritated. That site owner's maneuvers haven't gotten the best of you!

So many people hate pop ups-and with justification. They're aggravating. They are usually intrusive. If they play audio they could get you in trouble with your boss (or anybody else in the room). They offer crazy things. If you wish to close them you usually have to give up your personal info. Some even place malware and cookies inside your computer systems. There aren't very many people who really like experiencing pop-ups and yet most IMers continue to use them. Why is this?

The unfortunate truth of the matter is that IMers continue using pop-up ads because they actually work. They order interest. They support marketers produce e-mail marketing directories.

It has been proven many times that you will definitely not get as good a result with a voluntary opt-in box on your sidebar or even into the main content of your site as you do with a pop up. They sometimes even bring about direct sales. Sadly, these annoying bothersome web pests get the job done and, until someone can come up with something better, most Internet Marketers are going to keep using them. In actuality a good number of guru's have determined these email lists to be great for advocating their products such as the web stats ninja blog traffic analyzer.

Obviously, however that does not imply that the Internet Marketers should continue using them. What kind of worth can there be to an e-mail address that is only given under duress? Usually what the results are is the person just opts back out of your list as soon as they get the first e-mail from you or your company. Can your traffic be of prime quality when nearly all of it clicks out of your site because they are offended by the pop ups assaulting them? Of course you need to make money but really--is this the only way to do it? There ought to be a better option for someone who wants to make and build an e-mail list to help them sell things.

The genuine truth is this: if you have a good product and you can present it in a good light, you won't need to use a pop up. Concentrate first on setting up a high quality product so that you won't have to depend on an annoying pop up to get the job done for you. Write an awesome sales or splash page. Grab the reader's interest then do not give it back using just the power behind your copy and site content. Here's the truth: Web entrepreneurs only locate success and money on the net if the product that has been created is actually valuable. No pop up ad will ever have the capacity to change the true value of a product.
