Self Employed Health Insurance Tips

By Troy Truman

Being self employed has a lot of advantages, but many people worry about how they are going to find health insurance. Self employed health insurance plans are offered through many different health insurance providers. Although you won't get the types of discounts that the larger corporations get when they are signing up hundreds or thousands of people, you can still easily get a health insurance plan at a good price. The easiest way to do this is to get some quotes from different providers, and to start as soon as possible.

Almost all insurance providers don't cover preexisting conditions, and they prefer you to be in good health. Getting the health insurance plan you need when you are younger, or as soon as you're able to will save you money. Compare multiple self employed health insurance plans with each other so that you can see the different rates, co-pays, and premiums you will be expected to pay each year. If you already carry other insurance policies you may want to check with them to see if those companies carry health insurance, because you usually are eligible for a large discount after obtaining multiple policies with the same provider.

Although the price may be more than the policy that you get with traditional employment, there are many tax benefits that you are going to get for obtaining a self employed health insurance policy. Health insurance premiums can now be written off as a tax deduction in full if you're self employed, so the policy basically pays for itself. Going without health insurance is a large risk that no one should take, and with the tax benefits there is no reason to. You can also see about additional coverage like dental and ocular if you need that as well.

Just because you are self employed doesn't mean that you are going to have to go without health insurance, or that you are going to have to pay a lot of money for it. There are many insurance providers that have self employed health insurance policies that you can easily get for a fair price, and you will want to compare at least a few to be sure that you are getting the best rate.

Don't forget to claim your insurance when it comes time to file your taxes, and get the coverage that you need to have today.
