The Different Types Of Welding Baltimore Processes

By Grace Rivas

Welding Baltimore is a fabrication process that is used to join materials in most cases metals. This is achieved by melting the part of the metal to be joined then adding some joining material which is usually molten. This molten material is left to cool for the joint to be strong. This process of joining materials is widely used due to the fact that it is very efficient and economical. Mentioned below are the different types of joining using this method.

To start with, there is SMAW or shielded metal arc welding. This is also commonly known as stick type. The name comes from the rod which is used for joining metals since it resembles a stick. In this method, power is need to create an arc. Once the arc is created, it is used to burn soldering rod or an electrode to weld any metallic part that you want to. This rod is metallic coated with flux. This flux protects the area to be welded from air.

This process is widely used because it is simple and practical. It is also cheap and works well on most of the metals which require being joined. These qualities make it the perfect joining process for most of the industrial building requirements. It is the foundation to learning other types of metal joining processes in most of the institutions where these processes are taught.

Another type is MIG which is abbreviation for Metal Inert Gas. This type uses an arc too and it is considered one of the easiest to learn. It uses a wire which is fed to the joint to be welded. This wire is usually connected to a constant power supply which enables it to produce an arc for it to melt when it comes into contact with the joint to be weld.

An equipment called an MIG gun is required to combine the shielding gases, the wire and the electricity all at the same time. The said gun is equipped with a trigger which upon squeezing, the process is commenced. This procedure is mostly exploited in factory set-ups given their need for mass production. This is an easy process though a professional must be involved to establish the required settings for the equipment.

Tungsten inert gas is one of the most difficult processes to learn among those that produce an arc. It is abbreviated TIG. The good thing with this process is that it very versatile; most convectional metals are joined using this process. You need both hands in this process to effectively weld the joint. This is because you will need to hold a torch and the tungsten rod which is used to produce arc and heat with one hand while the other hand will feed the electrode.

It uses a constant current from the power supply to create an arc. This process requires a filler metal inform of a wire which is added on the joint to be welded. TIG process is good for metals which require high quality weld. Equipment employed in this type of a process are quite expensive and can be difficult to set up because they come with a remote amperage foot pedal which requires an argon gas cylinder to work.

In gas type of welding Baltimore processes, oxygen and acetylene are the most commonly used gases. In this process, the gas is burned to produce heat used to weld joints. It is commonly used in automotive industry. This is because it is portable and versatile.
