The Atlanta Braves are up to old and new ways

By B. Crawford

The Atlanta Braves have opened the season with a lot of thump coming from the offense. They have managed to put up good, maybe even amazing, offensive numbers while still striking out a bunch. We knew going into the season that the strikeout totals would be mind boggling, but we also had a pretty good idea that they would score a lot of runs and make life rough for the opposing pitching staff. So far, things are going about as anticipated.

Opening Day was a special event filled with all of the normal ceremonies. We saw Chipper Jones throw out the first pitch. We saw Dan Uggla get that first homerun taken care of. We saw Juston Upton hit a big shot into the bleachers, giving the fans a memento. Best of all we saw a victory, that's what is most important.

In the second game of the season we saw an additional victory for our Atlanta Braves. We saw another homerun by Justin Upton as well as the first big league homerun for Evan Gattis, that was a very impressive moment that he will never forget about. We saw some rain and will probably see more tonight so we hope that the third game will be played as scheduled.

The season is off to a good start and with the heat of the summer is going to bring great entertainment for the city of Atlanta. I expect to see a lot of offense form a lineup that has the potential to set records and make a historical mark on the Atlanta Braves' franchise. Assuming that the core health stays unimpaired, there is really no limit to what this team can accomplish in the season that is beginning to blossom.

Let's hope for clear weather tonight, or at least good enough so that the game can be played. Cliff Lee will be on the mound for the Phillies facing off against Kris Medlen; that stands to be a very good game. If any of these three games would not show a lot of offense, this would be that game. Lee is still at the top of his game and Medlen has shown that he is a dominant pitcher in the league. In about an hour, weather permitting, we'll be watching a great game. Let's hope for another Atlanta Braves victory!
