The Number 1 Key To Success In Making Money Online

By Greg C Nunan

The easiest method to explain the value of backlinks in your pursuit of a lucrative website is to think about links going into a site like they're a popularity vote. It makes sense that other sites only will back link to your website in the event it is made up of a whole lot articles and other content. Lots of external websites linking to your own is an indicator to Google that all those external websites consider the information of your site to be really useful (they would not link to it if it weren't). It's like all those external web-sites are voting for yours in a popularity competition.

In ranking websites and placing them within their search engine rankings, Google takes into account many different factors when making a decision which websites get on page one, with inbound links (votes) being a significant factor in that decision.

In saying this, Google have developed their algorithm criteria to the extent that they are quite effective in picking up sites appear to have manufactured 'votes' (one way links) abnormally, as compared with those that have generically done so.

Which factors does Google consider crucial with relation to links?

1. The Anchor Text of the link. If the website is about scrapbook designs, then having a good amount of links with anchor text that is 'scrap booking designs' will help you rank well in Google.

2. The relevance of the back links. Using the scrapbook designs example again, links which are from websites about art, hobbies and scrapping will be more worthwhile than inbound links from sports websites, computer websites or websites about jelly wrestling.

3. Popularity of the linking site. If a top quality, well established web-site is linking to your site, then that 'vote' contains more importance compared to a link from a web site that is relatively new.

Your main aim is to create a website which has high quality articles and overall information that naturally encourages other site owners to hyperlink to it. As this happens after some time, you generate natural 'authority' for your given specific niche market in the eyes of Google. Google likes to experience a natural progression of inbound links.

The challenge with building links 'naturally' is it normally takes a very long time and even while it's great in theory, the reality is you will want to take measures to decrease the time it requires to develop that authority. The way to do that is by building backlinks.
