Safety First: List Of Restricted Items In Personal Storage Facilities

By Lorenzo Backer

Many people's capacity to purchase things that their hearts desire has produced a dilemma regarding storage space. Also, there are business people who long for extra space where they could safely store their goods. So, the personal warehouse is a wonderful answer to the problem of storage space. Nevertheless, although you've been informed that you can keep anything or everything within the personal warehouse, you have to read the fine print about the restricted articles.

The prohibitions were drawn for the purpose of keeping you, the other tenants, the warehouse firm's staff and personnel, the warehouse structure, and other buildings in the surrounding area safe.

If you are planning on renting out a self storage space for keeping some of your personal belongings, you must be aware what objects could be stored in a personal warehouse and what items are not allowed. To be properly advised, you must consult the warehouse facility manager who can supply you with a detailed list of the stuff that are not allowed in storage. As a guide, the following are the most common types of things that are banned inside self-storage warehouse units.

Substances or objects that are classed as inherently dangerous are banned in personal storage facility. Some examples of this category are kerosene lamps, motor oil, grease, fertilizers, paint, biological wastes, and/or items or substances that are combustible, biohazardous, toxic, or flammable. Furthermore, in conformity with the law, stolen goods, illegal narcotics, contraband and smuggled goods are also banned from being kept in a personal storage facility. In case a tenant is arrested, these items would serve as evidence.

There are some facilities that own freezer units rented out so as to handle perishable goods. However, a great majority of personal warehouses do not currently have this feature so they cannot permit the storage of animal products and/or other perishable goods, such as food. These items could spoil and attract pests and/or harmful insects. Thus, in order to avoid causing inconvenience to the warehouse staff and to other tenants, it would be do good if you confer with your warehouse facility manager before placing goods that you doubt the category of in your personal storehouse.
