The Port Of Albany Scrap Yards

By Essie Osborn

Every business starts off as a small idea from an individual or individuals. For fragment metal dealers, one of their historical root is in the port of Albany. This location has a long history of dealing with parts from various metals and offering some of the best prices in the world. Unlike many other yards, port of Albany scrap has remained growing due to its good price offers hence encouraging business.

When most of us hear of fragment, we just think of waste metals without necessarily knowing exactly what is meant. At the Albany port, tin, brass, steel, aluminum, buses, iron among others. Some suppliers will even sell pennies as scrap, just a show of how creative people get to earn extra cash.

Going through the fragment at the yard, a lot of rather useful stuff is likely to be found. You may even be lucky enough to find something that may be considered antique. No matter how tempting it may be, it would be unethical and even illegal to take stuff outside the yard. It is a common policy that whatever goes in as fragments must go out as a fragment.

With hundreds of cars being crashed daily throughout the port, there is always a beehive of activities as the glass, plastics and metal are later shipped to another location. These are the millers and refiners which later recycle these products to create new ones.

Economically, it is evident that if the market offers good buying prices then the suppliers will be in surplus. This is the current case in the fragment yards. People are supplying everything that they consider as pieces and would bring in an extra dime.

With the growing skills, knowledge and technology, more powerful horsepower metal shredders are being introduced to the market. This has had a great impact on the capacity of fragment being produced daily in the area. Initially, only companies in the United States were being supplied with these recycled products but with the new technology, dealers are optimistic that they will be able to supply other foreign countries with the same products.

Just like any other legally existing company is registered, all the dealers at the port are licensed to conduct activities that involve handling of these recyclable waste materials. Others have gone as far as handling paper recycling processes in an attempt to fit into the competitive market. Apart from that, they are offering complementary services in the handling of ship, vessel, truck and rail car loading.

While fighting to maximize on profits, the dealers have social responsibilities that they are expected to meet. These include, managing the carbon dioxide emissions, proper energy use, observing the key health and safety indicators, responsible water consumption and generation and generally maintaining a green effect environment.

Apart from the above discussed effects, the yards have become an important part of the economy. This is because they have become a key employer, a tax payer to the government, a supplier of raw materials to the manufacturing companies and a tourist attraction site. The effect spins and affects not just the economy but also the country.
