Multi National Business Moving Into Panama

By Tyler Ramos

The Panamanian economy has been expanding exponentially in recent years: and the government has reported rates of approximately 8.5 per cent growth per annum. With such strong economic expansion going on, it is no accident that there are more and more multinational and transnational companies that are shifting there and opening up offices in Panama and trade in the country.

One of the things that has been attracting international investors to the country is that the banking system there is strong and has not suffered any of the collapses that have been seen in some other Latin countries in the recent past as well as in North America and European countries too.

Furthermore many companies have been coming to the country because the canal is being expanded and there are huge amount of resources and human resources that are needed to make it a success and continue on schedule. This means that there are massive business windows that are open for loads global companies. Interestingly the current expansions to the canal are bigger than the first canal project which was implemented back in the early 1900s.

The current Panamanian national government has been working hard to remove obstacles to investment in the country such as corruption and inefficient governmental practices and policies. This has been a deliberate approach by the government to make investment there a more attractive option for companies from around the world.

Another benefit to basing operations there is that it can act as a hub to North America, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. This can make keeping up with operations that you have in different regions more efficient as well as more affordable. The country does not fall on an earthquake fault line or suffer from extreme weather and hurricanes such as some other countries in the same region either and this also helps to make operations and insurance easier too.

Aside from the structure and benefits that the national government is putting into place, there are geographical benefits to placing business headquarters in the country. It bridges north and south America, which means that businesses that are operational in both regions will have better access to their businesses on the ground and be able to monitor the operations of their businesses more closely and reduce costs. The country is not an earthquake prone zone and nor does it tend to suffer hurricanes or other natural disasters that are prevalent in South America or the Caribbean.

The booming economy and growing standard of living present in the country are compelling reasons in themselves to center your business operations in the country. But on top of this, it is a pleasant place to live with low population, stunning forests and beaches to be visited and quick access to many international locations.

The Panama national government has begun to be proactive about encouraging businesses to come to the country and base their operations there or make investments. By making the business environment more amenable to the needs of big business, they have managed to secure strong economic growth that is the envy of many governments around the world. It is likely that this trend is going to continue for a long time to come and there will be more and more companies coming to Panama.
