Introduction To Personal Computer Backup Solutions

In computing, the term backup indicates replication on any storage medium of data inside the physical memory of computers, whether they are a workstation or server. Personal computer backup solutions are necessary to prevent the permanent data loss in the event of accidental, intentional or malicious loss. It is therefore a measure of physical redundancy of data, which is typical of disaster recovery procedures.

There are several types of media that can be used for backup: CD-ROM: The advantage is that it is a cheap media with fast read access. The disadvantage is mainly that capacity is low. DVD: There are larger capacity than a CD-ROM. A USB stick has a large capacity and is cheap. On the other hand, the very large units are quite expensive to buy. Online Backup: The advantage is that the backup file is stored outside the house.

The restoration of copied data is usually called restore. The system administrator or users who have similar access rights ensure the restoration of required files.

Hot backups are performed while the program that uses the file to be copied is active. Data can then be modified while copying is in progress.Use of a disk image is a method of backing up an entire disk or file system into a single image. This method is useful to create exact copies of a disk, for example, perform an installation on many computers simultaneously.

This is almost a prerequisite for the expansion of online backup solutions, as all data is transferred over the Internet. One must study the market and ensure that the supplier manages data in a proper, competent and confidential manner. Compression is obtained by algorithms of data compression (such as those used by the most popular programs, such as WinZip, WinRar, WinAce) before they are stored on fill-in media, or through deduplication.
