Tips On Troubleshooting Printing Equipment

By Miguel Rivera

Printing equipment are known to cause problems when you least expect it. However this does not always have to be the case. An individual who is ready to take care of his printer and properly maintain it will ensure that it does not cause too many problems. He will however need to be in a position to troubleshoot the common problems that may arise.

When a machine does not turn on even after pressing the power button, this will be an indication that something is not right with the connecting cable. Check the connection on both ends. A loose connection may make it impossible for a device to transmit the necessary energy.

Paper jam is another problem that may arise. When this happens, do not try to force the paper out as it may damage internal components such as the roller. Manufacturers will at times include a hatch at the back to help release the jammed paper. Check the manual for more details.

Printers may from time to time provide an error message in the form of an alarm or a beep. Where the error message is produced, read the error message displayed on the LCD screen. Many errors will be accompanied by an instruction on how to proceed. You could also make yourself familiar with the most common types of problems that may occur.

Communication problems may also arise where the operating system is unable to communicate with the device. In order to fix this problem, you need to check the cable running from your printer to the computer. It has to be firmly attached at each end.

In some cases, you might find that there is a misalignment of colors and lines on the print outs. This can be dealt with by checking the printer properties. Go to the options and check out the maintenance options that have been recommended. Follow the instructions to the end.

You may also find that there are other problems that are noticed on the print outs. Such problems may include poor color quality. This may be an indication that your ink cartridge is running slow. For grainy photos, be sure to check whether the source is okay.

It is not uncommon to find a machine that returns a blank page after sending the print command. When this happens, examine the original document to make sure that it is not blank. You should also check your ink cartridge. If all this turn out to be okay, make sure you establish whether your process was terminated before completion.
