Carpets are a major home improvement flooring option used in a number of homes. They are available is different colors and designs to meet every clients need. Compared to other flooring types, they are the leading in offering warmth and a luxurious feel in the home. Recently, there has been an increase in carpet recycling California area which focuses on environmental friendly type of this home improvement flooring option.

The green carpets are made from post-consumer recycled material like pop and water bottles. Another way of making them is through natural materials such as wool, jute or sea grass. These materials are collected all over the world which is good for growth of economy. The final product is stronger and durable due to the fact that it is treated with lesser toxins.

Collection of the required materials is always done before the commencement of the process. The owner normally decides whether he to take them to the chosen company or they pick the material from him. One important requirement that has to be met before they are considered worthy to be used is that they have to meet certain cleanliness level and to be well dried.

The next procedure carried out is identification of the fiber. There are various types of fibers which do not qualify for recycling. A spectrometer is used to check the type of fiber. Examples of materials, which qualify to go on to the next step, are PET fibers, N6, polypropylene, foam padding, cardboard among others.

After the fiber is accepted, preparation starts which includes sorting out and packaging to be transported to the producers for the final processing. They are weighed and coded according to colors and fiber. An entry for each bale is made before shipping.

The production process then starts with the separation of the fiber from the material backing by removing the binding glue. This is then taken through further processing after which the fiber can now be used to make a new item. These goods are considered environment friendly due to the lack of oil based components used to make the new carpets. Carpet tiles can also be made through a down cycling process. Building materials can also be found as a byproduct of the process and even resin for use in the plastic industry.

There are many benefits of using these products the most obvious been that they are environment friendly and durable. They also have their downside which must not be ignored. Some of the materials used in the processing are not fully eco-friendly. This means that the whole idea of a green product may not be perfectly green after all to some of the products.

The other disadvantage is that there is a reduced variety of color and patterns which gives the homeowners a hard time in matching them with his house color-theme. The homeowner has to consider the pros and cons of using these products to be sure of what works best for him. It is true that carpet recycling California area is impacting positively on the economic growth due to the many homeowners who have embraced this technology.
