Will Neon or LED Signs Be Better for Your Business?

Will Neon or LED Signs Be Better for Your Business?

Now that it is the 21st Century, businesses are beginning to adapt their operations for new methods and technologies. A number of businesses have gone so far as to change their store signs, hoping to get the attention of more people. Although neon signs are still in demand and used for a variety of businesses, many have begun to see more positive results from switching to LED signs. As both are fairly different, in effect and use, the particular needs of a business will usually determine which it chooses, neon or LED.

Probably the most important difference between neon signs and LED signs is their construction. Neon signs tend to be more fragile and prone to damage, since they are made using glass tubes filled with gas. LED signs, on the other hand, are made using special polymers, making them more flexible and lightweight. Even as LED signs are faster and easier to install, neon signs are still being regularly used and sought-after to satisfy the needs of many businesses.

As businesses are transitioning to "green" energy consciousness, many have chosen to use LED signs because of their reduced energy impact. Companies that now use LED signs have saved over 70% in energy costs, since neon signs burn much hotter and require more energy to run. For instance, traditional glass neon signs will use 15,000 volts of electricity whereas a LED sign will only use 24 volts; this translates to a tremendous cost difference. With higher energy costs and potential shock risks, many businesses still continue to purchase neon signs for their specific needs.

Which sign choice a business goes with will basically come down to its particular needs and preferences. Many businesses may decide that neon signs are more appropriate for their design or image. Yet, LED signs, being brighter, more energy efficient, and more creatively flexible, are fast becoming the sign choice of the future. Regardless of their design or creative needs, many businesses just simply need to save as much money as possible, opting for the LED signs.

Neon signs are often more vibrant and inviting for some businesses, giving their customers a familiar, down-home impression. Some businesses want to project a sense of progress and advancement, choosing LED signs for their more straightforward, futuristic feel. Other businesses have taken advantage of the benefits of each and use both neon and LED signs together, creating unique display effects. Even with the particular needs of a distinct business, with changes in our economy and energy management, it may soon come a time when LED signs and lights are the global standard. Whatever your signage needs may be, you should make your present choice in light of any future demands or changes your business may undergo.
