Print and Web design

By Alex Grey

There are many subjects to be covered under graphic design. If you were to ask what is graphic design you would get a long list of answers. Graphic design is
literally every design or print or text you see around you. Your coffee mug, the packaging of your toilet paper, ticket stubs you used to ride the subway, including the website in which you are reading this article is all graphic design.

one good question to ask is; Is there a difference between print and web design? well off course there is. The
biggest difference obviously would be how you are reaching out to readers/viewers. With one media you are allowing people to physically hold a solid piece of design, with the other you are allowing them to visually be stimulated by an interactive design i.e buttons.

With print design you are trying to keep the readers attention using a very limited space, sometimes your ads
can just 2" in size! You are forced to design something that is legible and to the point with not a lot of room to
work with.

Web design is pretty different in some ways you can get away with a lot more than with print. Webpages do not have any limitations as far as how many pages they are, or how long the pages are vertically. You can virtually have endless information on a page. Now I am not saying that, I recommend you overload people with pages of never ending text, but it gives you a better idea as to how web design can be a
little more versatile than print.

Regardless of how different these two categories are one thing remains the same. Design always has to be effective, clear and keep the readers attention. In
web it also needs to functional and simple to use, so that your users do not just close your website out. Color is also an important factor for both, it is part of good design to have color appropriate for
the subject, and also having the appropriate color mode for print and web.
