Perfect Newspaper Retention Strategies To Increase Subscribers

By Jerri Perry

Certain strategies must be in place in order to execute an effective newspaper retention program. If not, millions of people that are employed by a news agency that produces hard copy news publications on a daily basis will be out of work. People who enjoy the ritual of retrieving the paper each morning on the sidewalk will not be able to do so anymore.

To ensure that all customers are satisfied, many managers will go through the customer database and ensure that all preferences are noted and that the customers billing information is correct. Any errors will cause delivery delays and cause production costs to rise when the paper is delivered correctly on the same day. An undelivered newspaper is a wasted effort that must be corrected immediately.

Generating sales leads is a very important part of increasing company revenue, and certain sales strategies must be developed to identify where clients might be found. Any geographical area should be considered. If the person does not subscribe to a newspaper, he is considered a viable candidate for a long term subscription. Future sales can be boosted when past customers are contacted.

Certain deals can be offered to previous subscribers in order to lure the customer back. Every deal that is created must be available to all clients, otherwise some customers may feel that they were treated unfairly and this could affect sales. Generate excitement by asking employees to provide ideas for new deals. Consistency in offering low rate plans will help when trying to build a new subscriber base.

Surveys are very helpful in identifying people who do not subscribe to a newspaper. The names of those individuals will come from present customers who are satisfied customers. The surveys can also identify problem areas that need attention, and let the customer voice opinions that they feel are important. A lot of information can be obtained through this medium and a lot of ideas can be generated.

To keep customers content, workers must create a product worth buying, and some customers will choose to have the news delivered via different formats. Subscription numbers are sure to increase if customers are satisfied with the content written inside the publication. The customer is free to choose whatever format they need to get the daily news. A survey can give customers an outlet for making all needs known.

Certain strategies can be developed to reward customers for providing a sales lead contact. A subscriber that is nearing the end of a contract will be happy to learn about the benefits of taking advantage of an extended subscription that is offered at prices far less than the first period of service that they had enjoyed. With each new client, a customer will be rewarded with a new benefit.

In order for newspaper retention strategies to work effectively, there is no room for complacency in the company. New technologies should be embraced and utilized but satisfaction levels must also be monitored continuously and new clients must be identified through any means possible. Customers want to know the latest news, and do not care what format it is delivered in. Stress good services practices and the importance of making the customer happy.
